Circumstances of Death: "Ensign Murrian was lost with his naval plane May 2, 1945, as the ship returned from a raid on the Jap home islands…Ensign Murrian was lost in action only two days before he was due to take a leave of absence from duty. The officer and the rest of the plane's crew went down after the plane developed engine trouble. Pilot of the ill-fated plane was ensign Murrian himself, according to Navy records." (Obituary in Knoxville Journal on June 6, 1946)
